Triethylamine (molecular formula :C6H15N), also known as N, n-diethylethylethylamine, is the simplest isosubstituted tertiary amine, having typical properties of tertiary amines, including salting, oxidation, and no reaction to the Hisbergreaction test of triethylamine. The appearance is colorless to yellowish transparent liquid, with a strong ammonia odor, and the Chemicalbook is slightly smoky in the air. Boiling point :89.5ºC, relative density (water =1):0.70, relative density (air =1):3.48, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether. The aqueous solution is alkaline. Flammable, its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 1.2% to 8.0%. Toxic, strongly irritating.
Chemical properties Colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with strong ammonia odor. Soluble in ethanol and ether. Slightly soluble in water.
